Want a cheap Sprint HTC One? Get it for $79.99 or $99.99 through Amazon Wireless

HTC One Stealth Black 6 1600 aa

Amazon Wireless has Sprint’s HTC One available for a mere $ 99.99, or $ 79.99 if you’re registering a new account. The deal applies for both Glacial Silver and Stealth Black models of the device.

In comparison. Sprint’s One normally costs $ 199.99 for an upgrade. If you’re coming from another carrier, you can take advantage of Sprint’s number porting promotion to get the famed device for $ 99.99. So by going through Amazon Wireless, you can get a whopping $ 100 off of an upgrade and $ 20 off if you’re registering a new account. Quite a deal, I say!

Some people are understandably still not sure about and HTC One. If you’re in that boat, be sure to check out our review of the device (video below)!

Do you plan on getting the device on the Now Network or is the service still an issue for you?

Motorola XT1056 (Sprint X Phone?) spotted at the FCC

X Phone concept

X Phone concept

A new Motorola device has been spotted at the FCC with model number XT1056, suggesting we could be looking at yet another Google X Phone variation.

While Google has not confirmed the X Phone yet, speculation based on available evidence seemed to indicate that the XT1058 (a model also seen at the FCC recently) is AT&T’s X Phone version.

Soon after that, we saw an XT1060 mentioned in a leaked Motorola file, believed at the time to be Verizon’s X Phone version.

The XT1056 has a model number that suggest it may be part of the same family of handsets, and according to the available FCC documentation, the device packs support for Sprint’s LTE bands.

Interestingly, an XT1055 has also been spotted in alleged benchmark, and was believed to be an X Phone version.

The FCC filing for the XT1056 doesn’t reveal other details about the handset, but we’ll note that the provided drawing (above) isn’t similar to the one saw in FCC documentation for the XT1058 (below). In fact, the image for the later seemed to indicate that the AT&T-bound handset could be similar to that Motorola handset spotted in Vietnam in mid-March.

To recap, so far we have two confirmed model numbers for upcoming Motorola devices, the XT1058 and the XT1056, while other two versions have appeared in various reports including the XT1055 and the XT1060 (in case they’re real, they should hit the FCC in the future as well). But we’ll have to wait some more to see whether these devices will actually be X Phones for their respective carriers, or not, so keep holding to that grain of salt for now.

Sprint announces three tri-band LTE mobile broadband devices to land by summer

Sprint announces three tri-band LTE mobile broadband devices to land by summer

If your city is one of the many that’s part of Sprints ongoing LTE rollout (or will be soon), then the network’s just announced three tri-band mobile broadband devices for your consideration. The hope, it seems, is that as different parts of Sprint’s LTE spectrum becomes available (including that of Clearwire), coverage and network performance of the devices will improve. The hardware offerings are Novatel’s MiFi 500 LTE, the Netgear Zing Mobile Hotspot and 341U USB dongle, and are slated to be available by summer. No confirmed availability dates or prices just yet. Sprint also hints at tri-band LTE phones from Samsung and LG to follow. In the meantime, however, you’d better get set up with your Data Link and Static IP.

LG Optimus F3 picture apparently leaked, heading to Sprint soon

LG Logo aa 600px

An image of the LG Optimus F3 with Sprint branding has hit the web via famed leaker @evleaks.

LG has announced two other devices part of the budget-friendly F devices, the Optimus F7 and F5, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Their pictures were also leaked a few days ahead of the announcement by the same source.

The LG Optimus F3, which you can see in the image below, is aimed at those smartphone buyers that don’t want to invest a lot in a smartphone, just like the F7 and F5.

LG Optimus F3

The device, which bears model name LS720, shows Sprint branding in the image, and is reportedly coming in the next few weeks. The handset will be aggressively priced on contract according to Phone Arena.

Some Optimus F3 specs are mentioned including a dual-core CPU (no details on type or speed), a 4-inch WVGA screen (800 x 480 pixels), and a 2460mAH battery. The device would run Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2.

Also mentioned as coming to Sprint this quarter, but without a specific time frame, is the LS980 Optimus G Pro, which the leaker says is Sprint’s version of the LG Optimus G Pro, already available on AT&T. You may remember that the LS980 has made a Bluetooth SIG visit recently, so things seem to be connecting.

Anyone looking forward to the LG Optimus F3?

Optimus G Pro also rumored for the Now Network

LG is keen to make inroads into the budget LTE space with its Optimus F series devices, first announced at Mobile World Congress back in February. But one device that wasn't shown in Barcelona was the Optimus F3, a budget-focused 4G handset with a 4-inch WVGA display. Now it seems the F3 may be headed to Sprint, as prolific leaker @evleaks has unearthed a render of the device with Sprint branding.

At the other end of LG's product portfolio, @evleaks also mentions that the 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro, currently exclusive to AT&T, will be headed to Sprint "this quarter." A model number of LS980 is given, tying in with a device we've already seen pass by the Bluetooth SIG.

As for the Optimus F3, that's expected "in the next few weeks."

Cheaper AT&T HTC One and Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 available on Amazon

AT&T HTC One

The AT&T HTC One and Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 are now available for you to buy at lower prices than the ones the two carriers are currently selling them for.

First of all, Amazon Wireless currently sells the AT&T HTC One for $ 129.99 with a two-year contract, whether you buy it in Stealth Black or Glacial Silver. We’re looking at the 32GB version, the same one you can get directly from AT&T for $ 199.99, so that’s $ 70 cheaper.

The price is the same if you buy the HTC One (a device recently used to make the first smartphone video call from the Mount Everest summit), with an Individual or Family plan, and also if you upgrade your current phone or add a new line of service.

The AT&T HTC One is not the only device available for a cheaper price these days on Amazon Wireless. If your sights are set on the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4, you should know that you can also purchase it for a better price than the one the carrier offers.

However, the discount isn’t as big as the one for the AT&T HTC One. If the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 is sold for $ 149.99 by the mobile operator, Amazon Wireless offers it for $ 129.99, and you have to sign up for a new two-year agreement in order to get it for the price, be it an Individual or Family Plan.

If you’re still considering which one of the two flagship devices to get, our comparison should help you quite a bit. You can check out the video below.

Do you plan on taking advantage of the Amazon Wireless prices? Which one of the two smartphones do you plan on buying?

Sprint closes deal to buy US Cellular spectrum, adds 420,000 customers

Sprint closes deal to buy US Cellular spectrum, adds 420,000 new customers

Sprint was clearly hungry for capacity when it bought spectrum from US Cellular last fall, and it’s at last getting its fill — some of it, at least — by closing the deal today. The carrier has officially taken possession of 20MHz in airwaves across Midwestern cities like Champaign, Chicago and South Bend, as well as 10MHz in St. Louis. The customer handover isn’t quite as grandiose as was mentioned in November, however: Sprint is ultimately adopting 420,000 US Cellular customers, rather than the originally claimed 585,000. It should be a relatively bump-free transition, no matter who’s included in the group. Sprint expects the switch to take several months, and it’s keeping the US Cellular network active while customers go hunting for discounted phones.

Sprint closes deal to buy spectrum and customers from U.S. Cellular in the Midwest

Sprint

PCS spectrum and 420,000 U.S. Cellular customers part of deal

Sprint has announced that it's closed a deal to purchase PCS spectrum and a large number of customers from U.S. Cellular in the Midwest. As part of the deal, Sprint gets its hands on 20MHz of PCS airwaves in " various Midwest markets including Chicago, South Bend, Ind., and Champaign, Ill.," and 10MHz in St. Louis. As part of the transaction, Sprint will also inherit around 420,000 U.S. Cellular customers.

The customers affected by the purchase have already been informed, Sprint says, and it aims to offer them a smooth transition to its own network or one of its pre-paid brands, on a "similar or better" device at "little or no cost." The additional spectrum will help Sprint boost its network in these areas, as it looks to expand its 4G LTE coverage.

Sprint HTC One to get it its first update, promises to solve key sensitivity problem

Sprint HTC ONe

The Sprint HTC One is ready to get its first software update and, while a small one, it does aim to solve an important problem.

The update, which is confirmed on the Sprint website, will bring your device to version 1.29.651.10 and and will include three fixes. First of all, it comes with improvements to BlinkFeed, but no exact details are given regarding what those improvements are.

Second, you’re getting a new Sprint Zone client, but the most important thing is that it improves the Back and Home key sensitivity. This has been an issue that quite a few users have been complaining about and that HTC has acknowledged and offered a fix for. That only happened for some versions of the device, though.

Now users of the Sprint HTC One are also getting it, but the interesting thing is that HTC also pushed some other improvements as part of updates that solved the key sensitivity problem. These included camera, Beats Audio and Bluetooth improvements, but they don’t seem to be mentioned for this update.

If you have a Sprint HTC One (which is also available in Stealth Black), you should know that the update is coming OTA and will be released in stages, so you’ll eventually get it, even if it doesn’t happen immediately.

If you haven’t made up your mind about buying the HTC One or not, maybe our review will help you make a decision.

Sprint HTC One users, have you already received the update?

Google Wallet support coming to Sprint Galaxy S4, HTC One, and Galaxy Note 2

Google-IO-2013 wallet Checkout 1600 aa

Some good Google Wallet news for you, provided you’re using a Sprint Galaxy S4, a Sprint HTC One, or the Galaxy Note 2 on Sprint or U.S. Cellular.

The extended availability of the service has been announced on the official Google Wallet Twitter account:

If you’re among the lucky users of the devices listed above, you will be able to use the service simply by downloading and installing the Wallet app.

A quick look at the replies to the tweet shows that users from other carriers would really like to be able to use Wallet. Google certainly wants to make the service available to more users, but carriers also need to like the idea.

Google Wallet (which was rumored to get its own physical card, a feature that was scrapped in the end) has been significantly updated, as the company announced at the I/O keynote. The app now lets you make one-click purchases from the phone and send money to friends even if they don’t have a Gmail account.

You can view a video showcasing the new features below.

Do you own one of the devices mentioned above? Are you already using Google Wallet?
