Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with Android 4.3 spotted in benchmark results

If you love the Samsung Galaxy Note II and have been patiently awaiting additional details or rumors about the upcoming Galaxy Note 3, get excited. Today we have a juicy new report that has just surfaced showing the Note 3 running some benchmarks. More importantly the handset is also running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Head down past the break for more details.

Leaked benchmark results are nothing new, and fake benchmark results are just as common. You can simply tweak the build.prop of your device to make it appear to run Android 5.0, or name your smartphone the Google Nexus X and more. However, when we see plain vanilla benchmark results such as what’s been spotted and shown below, our interest is instantly piqued.

According to GSMInsider the benchmark we see below is of the unannounced Galaxy Note 3, listed as GT-N7200, and for those unfamiliar the Note II was the GT-N7100. Making this sound like the sequel to the device. The AnTuTu benchmark result reveals an unknown1.6 GHz processor, probably the Octa-core (8 core) from the S4, and if previous rumors are to be believed this could launch with 3GB of RAM.

Samsung-GT-N7200-Benchmark

While we started above by mentioning how easy it is to fake these results, it’s worth nothing both the Note II and the GALAXY S 4 were launched with the absolute latest version of Android. Add in the fact that Samsung’s now working closely with Google on their Galaxy S 4 Google Edition, this could all make perfect sense.

We’ve seen multiple leaks claiming a 5.9-inch display, and some even increasing to 6.3 and beyond. What we do know is that the device should be announced in late August for IFA 2013, just like the previous models before it. Hopefully it will also feature that unbreakable display technology we’ve been waiting for.

Rumor: Galaxy Note 3 with Android 4.3 scores almost 28K in AnTuTu benchmark

Galaxy Note 3 concept

Galaxy Note 3 concept

Allegedly showing the next-gen Galaxy Note smartphone, a new AnTuTu benchmark has surfaced providing certain details about the upcoming device.

According to the image below, the Galaxy Note 3 scores no less than 27914 in AnTuTu, of course assuming that we’re actually looking at the real deal.

More interestingly, we find out from the image that the device runs Android 4.3, which is said to be the next Android OS update that Google is readying for a June or July launch. Furthermore, the test says the Galaxy Note 3 is packing a 1600MHz processor, and we’re certainly interested to see what that kind of CPU it is. Such performance seems to indicate we could be looking at an Exynos 5 Octa version.

That GT-N7200 model number sounds plausible as well, considering that the model numbers of the Galaxy Note (GT-N7000) and Galaxy Note 2 (GT-N7100), but also the fact that a GT-N7200 device has also been recently spotted in EXIF data for a photo and reportedly identified as the next Galaxy Note 3.

Mind you, nothing is official just yet, and we’re making educated guesses based on previous Galaxy Note generations and existing Galaxy Note 3 rumors. Naturally, the AnTuTu benchmark could always be faked, and we’re certainly intrigued by the other N7200 devices in that screenshot, all Android devices running various OS versions and scoring much lower than the alleged Galaxy Note 3 device.

For comparison purposes, below you can see benchmark results for existing top Android devices, including the Galaxy S4 who tops such tests, particularly the Exynos 5 Octa version – we’ll note that Tegra 4 scores aren’t included in this one. The chart also shows scores for the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2.

HTC One vs Galaxy S4 benchmarks

That said, this purported Galaxy Note 3, if real, is still a prototype model, which means the final version running the final Android 4.3 build would score better in the same tests.

GSM Insider says that the Galaxy Note 3 would be the “first device with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean ahead of other rivals” – not counting Nexus devices in any case – which would be a remarkable accomplishment for Samsung. Has the company managed to somehow convince Google to grant it earlier access to Android OS versions, as some reports said when analyzing the “tense” relationship between the two companies? Or is Samsung simply getting better than everyone else at using that Android PDK?

We’ll certainly be looking forward to answer such questions, but for the time being we’ll remind you that the information presented in such benchmark tests still has to be questioned, as Samsung is yet to release any official details regarding the handset.

According to a recent report, the company did reveal that the Galaxy Note 3 would be unveiled at IFA 2013 – just as its predecessors, we’ll add. The handset is rumored not to pack a flexible display and to feature a design similar to the Galaxy S4.

Consumer Reports: Galaxy S4 best smartphone, Galaxy Note 8.0 beats iPad mini in rankings

Two of Samsung’s latest mobile products, a smartphone and a tablet, have been praised for their performance by Consumer Reports.

We’re looking at the recently launched Galaxy S4 (our review here) and Galaxy Note 8.0 (our review here), with both receiving plenty of positive remarks from the publication.

Galaxy S4

The Galaxy S4 is Consumer Reports’ new “top-rated” smartphone, displacing the LG Optimus G from the top spot it has occupied in its ratings for several months.

The phone has been picked up as the best handset with three major mobile carriers in the U.S. including AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile – it’s worth noting that the Verizon Galaxy S4 model is only shipping now to consumers. In addition to the Big Four, we’ll also remind you that the handset is available from various other regional mobile operators in the region.

The Galaxy S4 has received top scores for various categories, including usability, voice calls and messaging. Consumer Reports found that “battery life and voice quality varied slightly between cell carriers,” just like with the former top-rated smartphone, the Optimus G.

The publication reminds us that a special edition Galaxy S4 device running stock Android will soon be launched and that it could run Android 4.3 right out of the box, as some rumors suggest.

Galaxy Note 8.0

The Samsung-made iPad mini rival has also impressed Consumer Reports, with the device receiving 84 points in the company’s survey, outscoring its iOS rival.

Having received top marks in the “7- to 8-inch Wi-Fi tablets” rankings, the tablet “offers stellar performance.” While being $ 70 more expensive than its most important competitor, the Galaxy Note 8 packs some features the iPad mini doesn’t offer including a stylus, a memory card reader that makes up for the limited 16GB storage and GPS support.

In addition to the Galaxy Note 8.0, the publication also remarks other products such as Coby tablets (in 7-, 8- and 10.1-inch sizes), the Archos GamePad and the Windows 8-based Dell Latitude 10 Essentials.

Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 “Mega” appear in new rumors

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Concept

A couple of new reports offer new details about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 3 smartphone but also mention a device never seen before in similar rumors, the Galaxy S4 Mega.

Galaxy Note 3

Sam Mobile published a picture (see below) that has been allegedly taken with the Galaxy Note 3. The image has apparently been posted on the forum of a Polish website called SmartFan. Naturally, the information can’t be confirmed at this time, as we’re only looking at details available from EXIF data, and such info can be tampered with.

Assuming it’s real, the image appears to have been taken with a GT-N7200 device running firmware version N7200XXUAMEB. The Galaxy Note 2 has model number GT-N7200, while the Galaxy Note has model number GT-N7000, so it makes sense to assume this GT-N7200 is the third handset in the series.

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-3-picture-1

According to the EXIF data, the device has a 13-megapixel sensor and an aperture of f/2.2, matching the characteristics of the Galaxy S4 main shooter. The Galaxy Note 3 could share the same camera with the Galaxy S4, but it’s too early to have it everything confirmed.

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-3-picture-2

The handset is expected to be unveiled at IFA 2013 in Germany in early September.

Galaxy S4 Mega

The Galaxy S4 is rumored to have plenty of brothers including the Galayx S4 Mini, the Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Galaxy S4 Active, but it looks like another member of this expanding family may have been spotted.

Called the Galaxy S4 Mega, this particular model has been seen in Samsung’s recently updated WatchOn application. As you can see in the screenshots below WatchON has been updated with “added support for the upcoming S4 Mega, S4 mini and S4 Active.” In fact, these product names are mention right on the app’s page in the Google Play Store:

watchon-galaxy-s4-mega-2

From the looks of it, the Galaxy S4 mini and Galaxy S4 Active we mentioned before also get confirmed, but the Galaxy S4 Mega is a totally new product name.

Considering that the Mega is a new subfamily of Galaxy smartphones (currently there are two models in it, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 and the Galaxy Mega 5.8), where would a Galaxy S4 Mega fit? Is the device a bigger Galaxy S4 Mega? What purpose would it serve?

We’ll be back with more details about upcoming Samsung devices once we have them.

Samsung: Galaxy S4 sales to top 10 million next week, Galaxy Note 3 arriving at IFA 2013

galaxy s4 vs iphone 5 s4 back aa

Samsung’s JK Shin on Thursday told reporters that Galaxy S4 sales would soon top 10 million, while also cautiously answering Galaxy Note 3 flexible display-related questions.

According to Samsung’s mobile chief, the Galaxy S4 will hit the 10 million sales mark next week, a lot earlier than it predecessor did:

“We are confident that we will pass more than 10 million sales of the S4 next week. It is selling much faster than the previous model S3,” Samsung Electronics co-CEO Shin Jong-kyun told reporters at an industry forum in Seoul, Thursday.

The Galaxy S3 topped 10 million sold units 50 days after launch last year, while the Galaxy S4 will do it in less than a month. The handset was launched on April 26 in South Korea, with other major markets receiving it a day later. Currently, the Galaxy S4 is sold in 60 different countries.

Just the other day, we learned that Samsung sold over 5 million Galaxy S4 units in the first two weeks after launch.

Interestingly, Shin also answered a question regarding the adoption of “unbreakable displays” or flexible displays for the Galaxy Note 3. Enigmatically he said that “more time will be needed,” which seems to fall in line with a very recent report that claimed the new Note model would not pack a flexible display nor will it feature a metal design – however, details on the actual design of the phone were not offered:

“More time will be needed,” he said. The Suwon, Gyeonggi Province-based outfit is developing the Note3 with a 5.9-inch OLED display. The device will debut at this year’s IFA trade fair in Berlin, Germany, officials said.

As you can see Korea Times also notes that other “officials” said that the Galaxy Note 3 would arrive at IFA 2013, although they haven’t been named.

Previous rumors did suggest that Samsung would announce the third-generation Galaxy Note 3 at IFA 2013, which wouldn’t be surprising considering that the previous models have been unveiled at the same show.

Galaxy Note 3 tipped to arrive with Samsung’s familiar plastic design

Samsung still hasn’t offered any official details on the Galaxy Note 3, however the rumors continue to surface. This later round of rumors deals with the build quality. Despite hopes of seeing the Note 3 roll-out with an improved build quality, it is looking like Samsung is going to continue the plastic trend.

This latest bit is coming by way of SamMobile who note that Samsung has “dropped the renewed metal design.” Further details show the Galaxy Note 3 will be sporting the same design of the GALAXY S 4. But again, this is all still rumor at this point in time. The interesting part of the design choice seems to be in the why.

It is being reported that Samsung feels that if they went with the metal body, they would not be able to keep up with demand. Additionally, just like the reports of the metal body going away, it is now looking like Samsung has also dropped plans to use a flexible display.

Screen-Shot-2013-04-23-at-3.01.03-PM-540x345

Touching on some of the earlier rumors involving the specs. So far it is looking like the Galaxy Note 3 will be arriving with an octa-core processor that will consists of a 1.9 GHz quad-core Cortex-A15 and a 1.6GHz quad-core Cortex-A7. Despite some earlier reports, it looks like the Galaxy Note 3 display size has settled at 5.99 inches, which in this case will be a Full HD AMOLED.

Aside from the display and processor, the Galaxy Note 3 has been tipped to have 3GB of RAM, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera and 13 megapixel rear-facing camera along with the latest version of TouchWiz and the latest version of Android. So how about it, anyone waiting for the Note 3 to arrive?

Rumor: Galaxy Note 3 not to offer metal design or flexible display

samsung-galaxy-s4-vs-galaxy-note-2-side-by-side-3-645x430

Galaxy Note 2 (left) vs Galaxy S4 (right)

A new unconfirmed report reveals that Samsung has decided to stick with the current design line of its flagship device and build materials for the third-generation Galaxy Note model.

According to Sam Mobile’s insider, Samsung will not use the “renewed metal design” for the Galaxy Note 3 and the phone will not pack a flexible display either. Recent rumors did say that the company had to choose between different Galaxy Note 3 design prototypes, with one of them packing a flexible display.

More recently, an investment firm looking at Samsung’s display business, concluded that the Galaxy Note 3 won’t actually use a flexible display, because the South Korean giant can’t mass-produce flexible screens in sufficient quantities for such a device.

Apparently making enough metal cases for the Galaxy Note 3 is not possible either, which is why Samsung would rather use the Galaxy S4 design and build materials for the third-gen Note model. Naturally, this is a rumor for now, so take everything with a grain of salt, as we’ll surely see plenty of reports detailing Galaxy Note 3 features by the time the handset is official. Supposedly, the new Note model will be unveiled at some point in the third quarter of the year, most likely around IFA 2013.

Samsung Flexible Display

The Galaxy S4 became the fastest-selling smartphone in history to date, and while the Galaxy Note 3 will not move as many units as fast as the Galaxy S4, it will surely attract plenty of attention from buyers, just like its predecessors did.

If today’s rumor is accurate, it seems that Samsung would rather sell as many plastic Galaxy Note 3 handsets as fast as possible after announcing it rather than delay the launch of a metal Galaxy Note 3 that would also pack a flexible screen.

The Galaxy Note 3 is said to have a bezel smaller than its predecessor and to pack a 5.99-inch Full HD AMOLED display, Exynos 5 Octa processor (1.9GHz quad-core Cortex-A15 and 1.6GHz quad-core Cortex-A7), 13-megapixel camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and “the latest version of Android” with TouchWiz on top.

Google Wallet support coming to Sprint Galaxy S4, HTC One, and Galaxy Note 2

Google-IO-2013 wallet Checkout 1600 aa

Some good Google Wallet news for you, provided you’re using a Sprint Galaxy S4, a Sprint HTC One, or the Galaxy Note 2 on Sprint or U.S. Cellular.

The extended availability of the service has been announced on the official Google Wallet Twitter account:

If you’re among the lucky users of the devices listed above, you will be able to use the service simply by downloading and installing the Wallet app.

A quick look at the replies to the tweet shows that users from other carriers would really like to be able to use Wallet. Google certainly wants to make the service available to more users, but carriers also need to like the idea.

Google Wallet (which was rumored to get its own physical card, a feature that was scrapped in the end) has been significantly updated, as the company announced at the I/O keynote. The app now lets you make one-click purchases from the phone and send money to friends even if they don’t have a Gmail account.

You can view a video showcasing the new features below.

Do you own one of the devices mentioned above? Are you already using Google Wallet?

Google Wallet comes to Sprint HTC One, Galaxy Note II, GS4 and US Cellular Note II

DNP Google Wallet support now available for Sprint's HTC One, Ga

Currently, Google Wallet is available on a plethora of smartphones, but is there really such a thing as too much coverage? Google surely doesn’t seem to think so. Earlier today, the company added support for its mobile payment system to the GS4, HTC One (Sprint) and the Galaxy Note II (Sprint and US Cellular). If you own one of these devices, hit the Google Play link below to add its NFC-powered tap and pay capabilities.

Sprint Galaxy S4, HTC One and Galaxy Note 2 now have Google Wallet support

Sprint Galaxy S4

Google and Sprint team up again to allow three of the most popular devices to have Wallet access

Not everything makes it into the Google I/O keynote, but that doesn't mean it's not still important. As a tweet from the official Google Wallet account, it announced that the Sprint Galaxy S4, HTC One and Galaxy Note 2 (also on U.S. Cellular) will all be given access to the Google Wallet app directly from Google Play. This is pretty big news, as those are likely three of the most high-profile and best selling devices available on Sprint today. The carrier was originally one of the few partners that has stuck with Google through the ups and downs of Wallet, so it's good to see that the two companies are still working together.

Users on any of the three aforementioned devices should be able to grab a direct download of the app from the Play Store, which can be found at the link above. Now all you have to do is find somewhere to actually use those NFC payment abilities.
